Highlight: Óc Eo is an archaeological site proposed to be named by the French archaeologist site Louis Mallaret in Thoại Sơn District in southern An Giang Province, Vietnam, in the Mekong River Delta region of Vietnam. It is also one of the modern day Communes of Vietnam. This site may have been a busy port of the kingdom of Funan between the 1st and 7th centuries AD.

The excavation of the site began on February 10, 1942 after the French archaeologist had discovered this site with aerial photographing. The excavation covers 450 ha and contains in it many artifacts of the Funan kingdom. Oc Eo is placed between a network of ancient canals that crisscross the low flatland of the delta. One of the canals connects Oc Eo to the town's seaport while another goes 42 miles north-northeast to Angkor Borei. Oc Eo is longitudinally bisected by a canal, and there are four transverse canals along which pile-supported houses were perhaps ranged.

The Vietnamese historian Ha Van Tan has questioned whether the vestiges excavated at Oc Eo belonged to the Funan kingdom, in view of the complete lack of any Khmer records relating to a kingdom of this name: he argues that Oc Eo gradually emerged as an economic and cultural centre of the Mekong Delta and, with an important position on the Southeast Asian sea routes, became a meeting place for craftsmen and traders, which provided adequate conditions for urbanization, receiving foreign influences which in turn stimulated internal development.

Brief Itinerary

Day1: Ho Chi Minh - My Tho - Ben Tre (50km Cycling) (L, D)

Transfer out of city to My Tho - a gateway to Mekong delta; take a boat trip to see the local mekong people and their home business on islands.

Ride a bike on the islands and coconut plantations before heading to the local town Ben Tre for overnight.

Day2: Ben Tre - Tra Vinh - Soc Trang (85km cycling) (B,L)

Crossing the Mekong river by ferries and ride to Mo Cay - considered as homeland of communists in the vietnam war.

Keep going through to villages on paths and tracks to Tra Vinh khmer town. visit the historical Ba Om Pond and oldest Ang pagoda

Afternoon ride to the deeper Mekong land Soc Trang and overnight.

Day3: Soc Trang - Bac Lieu - Ca Mau (60km cycling) (B,L)

After breakfast at hotel, the short ride will be reached the well-known Bat Pagoda where you can see hundreds of Bats hanging in the pagoda and the trees;

This is one of the most unusual sights and it has become a favoourite stopoff for both foreign and domestic tourists. Back to bike along narrow country lanes, easy dirt tracks and trails to Bac Lieu.

Lunch at local restaurant used to be home of the “Baclieu Prince”, you will be told the story as reputation till today for all Vietnamese. Take an 1,5hours transfer to Camau considered as the southern tip of vietnam. Overnight is in local hotel in Ca Mau.

Day4: Ca Mau - Rach Gia (100km cycling) (B,L)

Today's ride starts at the hotel after breakfast. Bike ride on a waste-land for centuries, the area was first cultivated in the 17th century. And was known for most mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds – during the rainy season you may need a shortgun to keep them at bay. But today develop rapidly and all nicer paved roads has been constructed.

Today is a long ride and you can not imagine how beautiful of the unspoil sightseeings to tourists as well as the spectacular sites on the bike way. Picnic lunch will be prepared by our guide at the local stopover. Afternoon ride will be short and take a short transfer to Rach Gia, a gate way to Phu Quoc untouched island. Overnight in Rach Gia.

Day5: Rach Gia - Ha Tien (55km cycling) (B,L)

Today's breakfast will be outside of the hotel with local food. After transfer an hour to the less busy road where you start to ride.

Rach Gia lines along the south coast nearby Thailand Gulf and there are many limestone mountains, places for cement supply in Mekong Delta. Our tour will be continued by cycling to the Hon Chong, where considered as an Budhist followers Pilgrimage with sacred pagoda. It is a peaceful place in most of the year but seldom of foreign traveller's visits.

Lunch at the top hill over the vast south Sea. Rest before the afternoon ride to Ha Tien, the beach in this part of Vietnam face the gulf of Thailand. The water is incredibly warm and calm here, like a placid lake. Cross the To Chau bridge where Sea meets River into downtown. Overnight in Ha Tien.

Day6: Ha Tien - Chau Doc (85km cycling) (B,L)

Breakfast and bike gears on. Cyclo along the Cambodian boder and along the Vinh Te canals dug by locals in the early 19th century. Now is a main irigation for local rice fields, this is an earliest canals in Mekong delta and also importance one to all villagers.

When you are here as in an lost region, people are friendly and always say “hello” to you. Most people here is Cambodian, speak both Cambodian and Vietnamese. In one country but like two, your trip will perfect with different cultures.

Picnic lunch and ride the restway to Chau Doc for sunset from the top of Sam mountain. Check in the hotel and overnight in Chaudoc town.

Day7: Chau Doc - Cao Lanh (60km cycling) (B,L)

Once more, the scenery is completely different. After a short ferry, the cycling starts to gently. The route loops round to Cao Lanh from Chau Doc along the upstream of Mekong rivers, Lunch wil be prepared in local restaurant and ride the rest of the way to Cho Moi before Cao Lanh ferry along incredible country roads.

Transfer to visit the Bird sanctuary Tram Chim which famous and unique of Red – Crane , a bird that attracts hundreds of bird watchers to come. Transfer the same way back to Hotel. Overnight in local hotel in Cao Lanh. Dinner is outside and you may know this incredible speciality not miss out once here is Rat Meat – that most Vietnamese try!

Day8: Cao Lanh - Can Tho (65km cycling) (B,L)

Short transfer to the yesterday ferry. Our bus will head the riding place, you are ready with suncream, cycling gears...and ride starts by provincial road 849. The ride will be stop for water, snacks in every average 15 – 20kms.

So it is good for you to refill energy. Today's road is good and many worth places to see on the way as local family business Nem (wraped by banana leave with pork inside),...Cycling the country road along the Hau rive to Cantho ferry, transferring the rest to the hotel around 5pm.

Arrive hotel for check in and explore the town on your own (town is well-known for white rice-clear water-beautiful girls). Overnight in the hotel. Dinner will be at the local riverview restaurant.

Day9: Can Tho - Ho Chi Minh city (30km cycling) (B,L)

Breakfast at the hotel. Meet at the hotel; take a fascinating tour to explore the typical sites of Mekong delta, visiting the famous Cai Rang floating market – a highlight of the trip,

Then take a short visit to see local makes rice noodle which you may have try on the last days and take a ride from here through village in 30km length. Stop riding and transfer back to town for lunch.
